about

Les Apaches was a French collective of musicians, writers and artists, formed around 1900. The name refers to the Native American Apache tribe, but had the additional meaning in French of 'hooligans'. The group, which included composer Maurice Ravel, met every Sunday.

Les Apaches was also a Parisian criminal subculture of early 20th century hooligans, night muggers, street gangs and other criminals. After the news about their notoriety spread across Europe, the term was used to describe violent street crime in other countries as well; for example, the Russian apaches.

lyrics

Louise: Y'a des gosses - des millions d'gosses qu'ont connu la misère, comme toi. Comment s'fait-il, quelle différence y'a-t-il entre eux et toi pour que tu sois devenu un truand, un dur, et pas les autres ?

[Translation: There are kids - millions of kids who have experienced poverty, like you. What is the difference between them and you so that you became a hoodlum, and they didn't?]
